For Preschool, Elementary School and Middle School Students

PRESCHOOL CLASSES

 ART PARTY
with Ms. Jan
(Yellow and Green Rooms only)


 Combining their imagination with mixed media and inspiration from artists and illustrators, students will have fun creating their own original art.  Students always work at their own pace in an atmosphere that celebrates “process over product.”  There will be an additional $10 Material Fee that needs to be paid directly to the Instructor.      

COOKING
with Ms. Trisha
(Yellow and Green Rooms only)


Each class, we will be learning a new recipe that incorporates a nutritious ingredient “in disguise.”  Our little chefs will create and taste treats and dishes that are not only yummy but also healthier for us!  We will learn different cooking techniques and explore math and science concepts presented in cooking.  Please let me know if your child has any food allergies! For Students in the Green and Yellow Rooms only.  There will be an additional $10 Material Fee that needs to be paid directly to the Instructor.  Max:  8 Students

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CLASSES

 ACTING/IMPROV
1st-5th


Students will have TONS OF FUN learning Acting Skills through theater games (e.g., the 5 senses game, imitating animate and inanimate objects, etc.) and improvisation (e.g., going on a field trip to the beach or zoo).  Other benefits of this class will include developing public speaking and communication skills, creativity, spontaneity and teamwork as well as teaching them to focus on "being in the moment".    The level of instruction will be based on the skills of the group.  Min/Max:  6/12

BOARD GAME MANIA
K-5th

Its Friday afternoon after a long school week.  What's a better way to spend your time than playing some board games with friends? Come be a part of "Play On", TCS' first board game class.  From classics like Candyland, Clue, and Monopoly, to modern games like Zingo, Ticket to Ride, and Hoot Owl Hoot.  It's going to be a blast and it will fill up fast, so sign up as soon as possible. 

COOKING
(K-5th)


 Are you ready to play with your food?  Come join me with some hands on cooking.  We'll get creative with our after school snacks, exploring foods through all of our senses!  We'll learn about kitchen safety, practice our measuring and chopping skills,  and always encourage experimentation!  Please let me know of any food allergies or sensitivities.  There will be an additional $10 Material Fee that needs to be paid directly to the Instructor. 

 GUITAR
(2nd-5th)


 Students will have a lot of Fun in this small group  learning Guitar and to play songs.  The class will include rhythm and percussion activities, an introduction to reading music, guitar chords and basic music theory.  We provide the Guitars for our Classes, but we encourage families to purchase one so that your Child will have the opportunity to practice at home.  Min/Max:  3/5



HIP HOP
(K-3rd)

 Hip Hop is a very fun contemporary dance class teaching today’s pop culture style of dance.  Children will learn to move to their favorite songs and will learn routines to music created by their favorite artists.  In this class children will learn today’s hottest moves while having fun and getting a great workout.  This non-stop class teaches short routines to help children learn to pick-up and remember choreography and start them on their path to performance capabilities. This class is a great way for children to enhance their rhythm and coordination. They will end the session with an exciting performance demonstrating their funky new moves.  Min/Max:  6/12

 MARTIAL ARTS
WTH BELTS/STRIPES
(1st-5th)

Students will enjoy learning the FUNdamentals of Martial Arts, including stance, punches, kicks and blocks. They will warm-up and stretch at the beginning of each class and cool down at the end of class. Emphasis will be placed on safety, the use of their new skills for self-defense only and respect. The benefits of these classes will include learning discipline and focus as well as enhanced self-confidence and self-esteem. The skills taught will depend on the level of the group.  All Students will receive a White or Yellow Belt, etc. (depending on their level) and will be tested for their Stripes and increased Levels/Belts.  Parents will be invited to the last day of class as the Students are being tested for their belts or stripes.   The skills taught will depend on the age and skill level of the Group and Individuals.  Min/Max: 6/12

SOCCER
(K-1st)

Students will have TONS OF FUN while learning FUNDAMENTAL SOCCER SKILLS and beginning preparation to play Recreational Soccer for Fun, Leagues, etc. SOCCER SKILLS TO BE TAUGHT/REINFORCED INCLUDE:  dribbling, passing, shooting, offense and defense.  Mini-Games will be played to reinforce skills and rules. Benefits include Developing movement skills, eye-foot coordination, enhancing self-confidence, learning teamwork, and improving concentration.   Min/Max:  6/12


TINKERING WORKSHOP

(IMAGINE, DESIGN, BUILD)
(K-3rd)

Tinkering Workshop, based on reDiscover's amazing Tinkering School LA camps, gives children the tools and materials they need to build, the freedom to fail, and the time to pick themselves back up. Using a variety of familiar and unusual upcycled materials, like bamboo, wood, metal rings, and mylar, tinkerers explore concepts in aerodynamics, assemblage sculpture, and mechanical engineering by making and tinkering with their own projects. Tinkering combines art and engineering to allow children to think with their hands and translate their imaginations into physical objects. Some hand tools may be introduced depending on the age and skill level of the group.  Students will be trained to use tools safely.  Min/Max:  10/14

YOUNG ENGINEERS
(K-3RD)

Students will have A LOT OF FUN learning creative building skills and to follow basic plans as they are introduced to basic Math and Engineering concepts using building toys such as Lego, Knex, Lincoln Logs,  Gear Sets, Circuit Sets, etc.  They will learn to drive a remote control motorized car and learn what Engineering concepts were applied to make this vehicle function (e.g., round wheels, motors, gears, batteries, remote control, etc.  This Class will help them to develop their critical thinking skills and problem solving skills; and they will have FUN and a great learning experience.  Min/Max:  6/12.

 YOUNG FILMMAKERS WORKSHOP
WITH DVD OF COMPLETED PROJECT
(2nd-5th)


Students will have TONS OF FUN as they learn the basics of filmmaking, including how a set operates, the different positions on a film crew, and basic screenwriting, directing, and shooting principles. Together they will write, shoot, and act in a short 5-10 minute film, which will be edited by the instructor.   Students will be given a copy of the DVD (or it will be mailed following the class)

MIDDLE SCHOOL CLASSES
(Grades 6th-8th)

 ART:  CARDBOARD SCULPTURES
(6th-8th)

 Make, sculpt, and invent using cardboard. Everyday boxes and tubes transform under your cardboard cutters and crafty use of tape and glue into fantastical masks, models, buildings, vehicles, sculptures, and inventions. Build small or build large. Learn professional cardboard cutting, forming, and connecting techniques to transform this ubiquitous substance into customized shapes.  Min/Max:  10/14
